Blockchain.com Launches Buy-Only Crypto Options With One-Week Expiries

Blockchain.com said on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 that it has launched options trading inside its consumer Trading Account, letting eligible users in supported jurisdictions buy short-dated call and put contracts with defined risk. At launch the underlyings are Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL), Hyperliquid (HYPE), Avalanche (AVAX), XRP, and TRON (TRX). Trades fund upfront in USDC from the Trading Account, so the premium paid is the maximum loss — not a margin loan. This is a venue product launch, not a new NFT marketplace fee rule.
The flow is built to hide options mechanics: pick an expiry and target price, enter a trade amount, review, then confirm; Blockchain.com maps that view to the matching call or put. Contracts start with expiries of up to one week and, per company support documentation cited by The Block, must be held through settlement — they cannot be sold or closed early. The Block also puts the minimum premium at $5, excluding applicable fees. Live market prices sit inside the same trading screen. Taro Ugen, VP of Consumer, said the product is designed around where traders think the market is going, when they think it will get there, and how much they will put behind that view.
Options sit beside Blockchain.com’s earlier perpetual-futures lane and its international prediction-market access through Polymarket / Hyperliquid perps for some users. Earlier this month the company applied for U.S. regulatory licenses to offer prediction markets and crypto derivatives — today’s options launch is for eligible users in supported jurisdictions under existing rules, not a claim that U.S. retail derivatives are cleared nationwide. Availability remains jurisdiction-gated; collectors should not assume every Blockchain.com account can hit the new screen.
For marketplace desks, the beat is product surface and risk shape: buy-only options with a hard premium cap, short expiries, and no early exit path. That is a different rail from CME’s institutional BCH/UNI futures first print logged earlier today, and from NFT listing or royalty changes. Hold-to-settlement also means liquidity risk is different from a liquid options chain on a traditional broker — if the short-term view is wrong, the premium is gone at expiry with no mid-window sell. Blockchain.com still reports 95M+ wallets and 44M+ confirmed accounts as company context; those figures do not prove how many users will clear the options eligibility gate.
Venue watch: Track whether Blockchain.com expands underlyings or expiries beyond the one-week buy-only set, whether U.S. derivatives license applications advance enough to change who can access the screen, and whether support docs keep the hold-to-settlement and $5 minimum rules intact after launch week.
Bottom line: Blockchain.com launched buy-only crypto options on October 20, 2026 for seven underlyings with up to one-week expiries funded in USDC — hold-to-settlement and jurisdiction gates still define who can use the screen.
