Coinbase Lists Ripple RLUSD Across Retail Exchange and Prime With XRPL Ethereum and Base Rails

Coinbase and Ripple said Wednesday that Ripple USD (RLUSD) is live across Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange, and the Coinbase retail app, with 1:1 conversion from U.S. dollars and other supported dollar-denominated stablecoins. Deposits and withdrawals are supported on the XRP Ledger, Ethereum, and Base, according to Ripple’s October 28 release. The listing is a fresh distribution receipt after Ripple’s final OCC national-trust approval for RLUSD rails earlier this week — not a repeat of that charter chapter.
Ripple’s release frames the Coinbase rollout as U.S. market access for an enterprise-grade stablecoin already used in payments, institutional markets, and on-chain finance. Jack McDonald, SVP of Stablecoins at Ripple, said institutions want compliant stablecoins “readily available through the platforms institutions already trust,” and called the Coinbase partnership a way to put RLUSD in front of a large U.S. institutional client base across execution, settlement, and custody. Brett Tejpaul, Co-CEO of Coinbase Institutional, said adding RLUSD is another step toward an “everything exchange” where clients pick assets on compliant infrastructure.
Treat the numbers carefully. Ripple’s Coinbase release puts RLUSD market capitalization above about $2.4 billion since the December 2024 launch; The Block’s parallel write-up cites a higher ~$2.6 billion figure attributed to Ripple. Prefer the dated press text for the Coinbase product claim, and do not invent a precise circulating supply or a full list of trading pairs — neither company published a complete pair map, fee schedule, or country matrix in the announcement.
Settlement rails matter for NFT desks even when the headline is a stablecoin listing. Collectors and desks that fund OpenSea open editions, vaulted packs, and ETH-denominated floors often park bid currency in dollar stables before they chase a mint. A Coinbase-native path into RLUSD on Ethereum and Base widens the set of cash-leg options beside USDC and other dollar tokens already in that stack. Ripple said it will provide liquidity on Base to support RLUSD growth there; the release does not size that liquidity commitment.
What is not live yet is as important as what is. Ripple and Coinbase both say availability for Coinbase Global Exchange customers, including using RLUSD as collateral, will follow later without a public date. The companies also did not announce a Coinbase rewards program for RLUSD balances comparable to existing USDC incentives. Keep Invisible Friends’ The Walk burn clock on its own rail — the first burn still counted down toward about 6:00 p.m. ET mid-afternoon Pacific and needs a dated reward receipt, not a stablecoin proxy.
The listing lands on a busy RLUSD week. Ripple’s final OCC approval for Ripple National Trust Bank earlier this week added federal supervision around RLUSD reserve management and fiduciary digital-asset custody while leaving issuance with New York–regulated Standard Custody & Trust Company. Separately, market wraps on Wednesday noted a Moody’s deposit rating print for RLUSD; treat that as a credit-desk receipt if confirmed in the rating text, not as Coinbase product approval. McDonald and Tejpaul are scheduled on stage at Ripple Swell in New York at 4:45 p.m. ET Wednesday to discuss institutional stablecoin adoption — watch that session for any Global Exchange or collateral timing that today’s press left blank.
For marketplace operators and NFT treasuries, the practical check is whether RLUSD deposit and withdrawal paths on Ethereum and Base clear in the same session windows collectors already use for USDC. A listing without paired depth, without Global Exchange collateral, and without a rewards hook can still matter as optionality — especially after Coinbase’s Amplitude vendor disclosure earlier today reminded desks that exchange-side operational risk and settlement product news travel on separate clocks.
Settlement watch: Watch whether Coinbase posts Global Exchange collateral timing and whether Base RLUSD depth shows up in dated venue liquidity — if Ethereum and Base deposit receipts stay thin while the press cycle fades, Wednesday’s listing will read as distribution theater rather than a new cash leg for NFT bids.
Bottom line: Coinbase listed RLUSD on Wednesday across Prime, Exchange, and the retail app with 1:1 dollar conversion and deposits on XRPL, Ethereum, and Base, while Global Exchange collateral support remains dated as later.
