DTCC Launches Tokenization Service Targeting Up to $30 Trillion in Assets

DTCC has launched a Tokenization Service aimed at bringing up to about $30 trillion in real-world securities on-chain, with an initial live scope of 25 instruments across U.S. Treasuries, equities, and exchange-traded funds on permissioned networks including Canton and DTCC’s private Hyperledger Besu environment, TokenPost reported Saturday (2:27 PM EDT / about 11:27 AM PDT). Utility cut: the $30 trillion figure is the broader DTC-held pool the service targets — not the day-one product set — and tokens are designed as 1:1 representations of securities already held at DTC, keeping the same CUSIP, rights, and investor protections as book-entry holdings per DTCC’s own at-a-glance scope sheet. This is not a retail NFT mint and not a claim that all DTC custody is already tokenized.

What is live at launch, per that DTCC sheet and Saturday’s wrap, is conversion through a Tokenization UI and API during business hours — roughly 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET on business days, with a target of 15 minutes or less — plus 24/7 peer-to-peer transfers between DTC-registered wallets on the same chain, wallet registration for select third-party wallets, and compliance-enabled tokens with transfer restrictions. Official books and records stay with DTC. Canton uses token standard CIP-56; Besu uses ERC-20 on DTCC’s private network. Asset classes named for the start set are select U.S. Treasury bills, notes, and bonds; select ETFs; and select Russell 1000 large-cap equities, with expansion over time. On-chain U.S. Treasury servicing for distributions and maturities is described with fiat payments back to Participants’ traditional accounts — attribute that servicing path to DTCC’s launch materials, not as a retail cash-out promise for collectors.

Roadmap language for 2027 adds more networks — including Stellar (SEP-41) and Circle’s Arc (ERC-20) — plus more eligible securities, enhanced controls such as single sign-on and maker-checker, expanded equity and ETF corporate-action servicing, a consolidated stock record across book-entry and on-chain positions, and later settlement/collateral features including on-chain netting and digital cash. DTCC flags the roadmap as indicative and subject to the applicable SEC No-Action Letter, participant input, and market conditions. An earlier TokenPost access note (Oct. 18) had framed commercial October opening after a July closed pilot with more than 30 Wall Street institutions; Saturday’s “has launched” print is the unused desk beat versus that preview, and it is separate from this site’s prior Ondo Oasis Pro Fund/SERV membership LN, which covered a different DTCC membership rail.

For NFT and crypto desks watching settlement rails, the practical question is whether permissioned, compliance-gated tokens of Treasuries, ETFs, and large-cap equities become collateral that bids against pure crypto liquidity — or stay a closed Participant product for years. DTCC’s model keeps conversion inside registered wallets and transfer restrictions, so this is not OpenSea-style secondary for the launch set. Do not invent the list of which 25 CUSIPs are live, day-one converted dollar volume, or Participant onboarding counts unless DTCC or a named Participant publishes them. Attribute the launch and network names to TokenPost’s Saturday wrap plus DTCC’s published scope sheet; treat Genfinity and similar mid-October explainers as backdrop that already mapped the same Canton/Besu start and Stellar/Arc 2027 path.

Desk hygiene beside tonight’s other wires: Farming Season’s Collab Box still waits on October 25, 20:00 UTC with no new delivery fact this tick, and NODE’s Punk Strategy fee cut is a separate CryptoPunks Strategy venue beat — neither substitutes for a central-securities-depository tokenization go-live. Keep investor-protection claims as DTCC’s design language (same CUSIP and rights as book-entry), not as a guarantee that every on-chain transfer path will behave like a traditional DTC settlement for retail wallets. Watch for Participant names, the first public conversion stats, and whether Stellar or Arc dates firm before the indicative 2027 window.

Utility check: The service is live in DTCC’s launch framing for a 25-security start set on Canton and private Besu — the ~$30 trillion figure is the eligible pool target, not converted inventory, and Stellar/Arc remain 2027 roadmap items until DTCC or those networks post firmer dates.

Bottom line: DTCC says its Tokenization Service is live for a 25-security start on Canton and private Besu, targeting up to about $30 trillion in DTC-held assets over time — with Stellar and Arc still on the 2027 roadmap.
