Initia Halts L1 and Rollups After ~$2.7M Mint-to-Bridge Exploit

Initia halted its layer-1 chain and connected rollups on October 23, 2026 at about 15:41 UTC after a security incident that investigators link to unauthorized token minting and cross-chain withdrawals, per the project’s halt notice and same-day wraps from CoinEdition. Analysts at D2 Finance say a 14:59:26 UTC transaction allegedly minted 2 million AUSD without backing; about 153 seconds later a LayerZero message released roughly 1.4 million AUSD from an Ethereum adapter, with further unbacked minting tied to about 1.08 million USDC before stablecoins were swapped into ETH. Tracked consolidation landed near 1,135.52 ETH (~$2.73 million) in a fresh wallet — desk treats that as a traced proceeds figure, not Initia’s final loss print. This is a Rug Room chapter: mint-control failure meeting bridge adapters — high-level only, not an exploit cookbook.

Co-founder color from Lookonchain-style wraps: Zon said early read points to a zero-day in Initia’s Cosmos SDK–based MoveVM that can mint extra tokens on L1 while leaving native INIT unaffected — still under investigation with validators, exchanges, and security firms. Desk rule: do not invent remediation patches, recovery percentages, or claim LayerZero itself was broken; the reported path is unbacked L1 mint → adapter release of real assets. Keep separate from NemTokenV2 PancakeSwap recycle (11032) and Cysic bridge mint chapters already on the board.

For users and validators: the halt freezes L1/rollup progress until the team publishes scope and restart conditions. Spreek’s early tape put converted assets near $2.6 million with transfers still moving when the chain stopped — treat dollar totals as moving until Initia posts an official postmortem.

For security desks, the cut is mint authority meeting bridges: unbacked AUSD/USDC on Initia turned into real Ethereum-side stables and ETH before the L1 halt — users wait on official scope and restart.

What changes for desks: Watch Initia’s first postmortem with confirmed dollar impact; whether MoveVM/Cosmos SDK patches land before restart; and exchange/listing freezes on INIT or related wrapped assets while the chain stays halted.

Bottom line: Initia halted L1 and rollups after investigators tied unbacked AUSD/USDC minting to roughly $2.7 million in ETH-side exits via bridge adapters.
