JPMorgan Brings JPM Coin Deposit Token to Ethereum for Institutional Clients

JPMorgan said on October 19, 2026 that its Kinexys unit has brought JPM Coin (ticker JPMD) — a USD deposit token representing dollars held at the bank — live on Ethereum mainnet for institutional clients, according to the bank’s official payments newsroom and desk reports from CoinDesk, Decrypt, and The Block. The token first launched on Coinbase’s Base Layer 2 in November 2025. Monday’s cut extends the same permissioned deposit product onto Ethereum Layer 1 so approved clients can move wholesale dollars on a second public chain.
Emma Landriault, global head of Kinexys Labs, framed the expansion as multi-chain optionality rather than a retail listing: “Issuing JPM Coin first on Base and now on Ethereum is a meaningful step towards providing our institutional clients with multi-chain optionality for moving wholesale money across both the web3 and traditional finance ecosystems.” The bank’s newsroom points at Ethereum’s on-chain liquidity and tokenized-asset depth as the reason to add L1 after Base. CoinDesk cites roughly $50 billion locked in Ethereum-based applications (DeFiLlama) as context for that liquidity argument — a market backdrop, not a JPM Coin float figure.
Settlement desks should keep the product category straight. JPM Coin is a deposit token: each unit maps to a dollar deposit at JPMorgan and, per Decrypt’s read of the bank materials, can be redeemed for dollars without a lock-up — but only vetted institutional counterparties can hold it. That is not an exchange-traded stablecoin float. Peer-to-peer transfers sit inside the EVM ecosystem spanning Base and Ethereum. Kinexys says its platform has processed more than $4 trillion in cumulative transactions since inception with about $7 billion in average daily volume, still a slice of JPMorgan Payments’ wider ~$12 trillion-a-day rails.
The Ethereum launch also sits beside other JPMorgan tokenization moves already on the same chain: the bank notes J.P. Morgan Asset Management tokenized money-market funds issued on Ethereum earlier this year. Separately, the firm has flagged interest in Canton Network and is among banks exploring shared tokenized-deposit rails — plans that remain parallel tracks, not proof that JPMD is freely tradable on public AMMs. For NFT and RWA desks, the practical receipt is onchain USD cash from a regulated bank balance sheet that can sit next to tokenized collateral — still gated to institutional wallets.
Read the Monday print as a permissioned settlement expansion, not a retail mint. Watch whether approved clients actually route payments and collateral posts on Ethereum L1, whether Base↔Ethereum transfer paths stay operational under load, and whether any public explorer footprint discloses contract addresses the bank is willing to treat as canonical. Until those receipts land, treat secondary “buy JPM Coin” pitches as spoof.
Settlement watch: Confirm institutional client activation on Ethereum L1 — live transfer volume, redeemability under the bank’s stated terms, and any official contract-address disclosure — before treating JPMD as a settled multi-chain cash layer rather than a press-release deployment.
Bottom line: JPMorgan’s JPM Coin deposit token is live on Ethereum for institutional clients after Base — a permissioned bank-dollar rail for wholesale settlement, not a retail stablecoin listing.
