OpenSea starts moving Mobile waitlist as phased NFT app access expands

OpenSea has begun moving users off the OpenSea Mobile waitlist, according to the marketplace’s official X account on September 17, 2026 at 20:25:52 UTC, which wrote that “today, the line starts moving.” Secondary coverage on September 18 (including CryptoCompass via MarketInsiders and NFTenex) framed the post as the start of a phased access expansion for the self-custody app—not a full public unlock. OpenSea did not publish invitation counts, a clearance schedule, or regional priority in that post, so desks should not invent batch sizes.

Marketplace Watch should treat the wire as product-access news on top of an app OpenSea already described in July. The company’s July 16, 2026 OpenSea Mobile blog says the app rolls out on iOS and Android, supports the same 27 blockchains as web OpenSea, and combines tokens, NFTs, and perpetual futures in one self-custodial account. Help Center guidance still describes a waitlist screen, referral-code shortcuts, push notifications when access is ready, and a mobile web (PWA) fallback while users wait—consistent with a gradual rollout rather than an overnight open door.

What collectors can do once inside, per OpenSea’s product copy: trade memecoins and tokens across supported chains, manage NFT collections in a unified Portfolio tab, follow social Feed activity (For You and Following), and trade perps surfaced on Home. The July blog also notes Stock Tokens on Robinhood Chain and funding paths that include crypto deposits plus Apple Pay or card rails. Certain products remain unavailable in the US, UK, and sanctioned jurisdictions, OpenSea warns—eligibility is not universal even after an invite.

NFTenex attributed a 5M+ downloads figure to the Google Play listing when it fetched the store page, plus a September 15, 2026 Android update timestamp—useful as a distribution signal, not as OpenSea’s own press release. The same secondary piece noted OpenSea has not said whether iOS or Android is prioritized. Until OpenSea publishes those details, treat platform parity as unknown.

Security posture shifts with self-custody. OpenSea Mobile generates self-custodial EVM and Solana wallets from an email signup on the July product page, with optional linking to an existing web profile. That design removes seed-phrase onboarding friction but keeps private-key risk with the user. Collectors who receive “invite” messages outside official OpenSea channels should assume phishing until proven otherwise—especially while waitlist access is scarce and social engineering is cheap.

Context for the broader OpenSea tape this week includes Arc chain support and Solana NFT trading already logged elsewhere on 8bitcrypto, without reprinting those launches. Mobile waitlist movement is the consumer-access layer on that multi-chain stack: same 27-chain surface, now opening in batches for phone users who have been stuck on the queue.

What this does not prove: that the waitlist is cleared, that unique marketplace buyers will rise in lockstep with invites, or that perps and NFT volume on mobile will match desktop. OpenSea has not disclosed invite totals. Attribute the “line starts moving” line to OpenSea’s September 17 X post; attribute app feature scope to OpenSea’s July Mobile blog and Help Center; attribute the 5M+ Play downloads print to NFTenex’s storefront fetch—not invent a user-admission census.

On September 18, the Marketplace Watch line is OpenSea confirming that Mobile waitlist access has started to move in a phased iOS/Android rollout for a self-custody app spanning NFTs, tokens, and perps across 27 chains—queue clearing is underway, not finished.
