USDC Drives Most of Latest Stablecoin Supply Contraction Near $300B Market Cap

Circle’s USDC is doing most of the heavy lifting in the latest stablecoin-supply drawdown. DefiLlama-based reporting dated through October 25 put the broader stablecoin market near $300.36 billion after a roughly $12.73 billion slide since May 22, with USDC capitalization around $71.74 billion after shedding about $4.69 billion over thirty days — roughly 80% of the net monthly decline among the thirteen largest names with monthly figures. A live DefiLlama stablecoins print checked Monday afternoon Pacific still showed total capitalization near $300 billion, USDT near $182.2 billion, and USDC near $71.7 billion with a mid-single-digit thirty-day percentage drop. Treat those dashboard numbers as live snapshots, not a closed redemption ledger.

Tether’s USDT remains the settlement heavyweight at about 60.7% market share, but it is also contracting — on the order of about $1.29 billion over thirty days and nearly $1 billion over seven days in the October 25 print. Across the fifteen largest stables, seven-day net losses clustered near $1.9 billion. Ethena’s USDe and World Liberty Financial’s USD1 joined the monthly retreat, while PayPal’s PYUSD and Falcon’s USDf posted expansions in the same window. Settlement desks should read that dispersion as corridor-specific demand, not a single “stablecoins are dead” tape.

The dry-powder story traders tell themselves is simple: fewer circulating digital dollars mean less cash parked for the next bid. That framing is incomplete for NFT and marketplace rails. Supply can shrink because holders redeem to fiat, rotate into yield-bearing tokenized Treasuries, change collateral preferences, or clear through faster turnover — and those paths do not all remove the same usable bid currency from OpenSea checkouts or Hyperliquid USDC books. Tokenized Treasury products tracked on rwa.xyz also slipped from about $16.2 billion on August 12 to about $14.65 billion on October 25, a separate lane that can absorb dollars without proving they left crypto entirely.

For collectors, the practical settlement question is which issuer sits under the bid. Marketplace and Hyperliquid USDC pairs still clear in Circle’s token; a multi-billion monthly USDC supply cut changes float available for those books even when USDT dominance holds. It does not, by itself, prove a Circle reserve failure or a peg break — DefiLlama’s peg columns for USDC and USDT remained near flat in the Monday print. Do not invent a bank-run narrative from market-cap deltas alone without reserve or peg evidence.

Keep this chapter separate from earlier GENIUS Act and OCC redemption-clock wires. Those policy beats set issuer licensing and two-business-day redemption clocks into 2027; today’s beat is live circulating supply. Attribution stays with DefiLlama dashboard reads and secondary desks summarizing those tables. Absolute dollar prints move every dashboard refresh — re-check the DefiLlama stablecoins page before treating any single $4.69 billion thirty-day figure as permanent market truth.

Mixed movers matter for desk balance. PYUSD’s monthly add and USDf’s large percentage expansion show capital can still mint into payment and synthetic dollar products even while Circle’s float shrinks. USDe and USD1’s monthly losses show the opposite corridor. Settlement reporting should name the ticker, the chain corridor, and the measurement window rather than collapsing everything into a single claim that “stablecoin liquidity vanished overnight.”

Settlement watch: Re-check DefiLlama’s USDC and USDT market-cap lines versus exchange-level balances over the next week, watch whether PYUSD/USDf inflows continue while Circle’s float contracts, and map which NFT and Hyperliquid USDC books still have enough free stable float to clear without widening spreads.

Bottom line: USDC has driven most of the latest tracked stablecoin-supply contraction, with DefiLlama prints near $300 billion total market cap and Circle’s float near $71.7 billion after a multi-billion thirty-day cut — a settlement float story, not a peg-break claim.
