Zipcoin Shuts Down After UNCX Losses and Claimed Codebase Breach

Ethereum privacy token project Zipcoin announced an immediate shutdown on October 22, 2026 after a second security hit in under a week — a claimed full compromise of its codebase and keys — following mid-October losses tied to UNCX Smart Token Vesting V2, Crypto Briefing and The Crypto Times reported. The team said it still controlled wallets holding about 2.2% of ZC supply (~22 million tokens on a 1 billion fixed supply) and planned a short holder exit window before selling those remaining project holdings. Same-day wraps put ZC down about 84% on the news after a late-September launch that had briefly peaked near a $40 million market cap. This is a Rug Room chapter: project wind-down after vesting + infrastructure risk — not a fresh PancakeSwap meme-token drain and not a restatement of the broader Railway env-var cluster.

Timeline color from the same coverage: an October 14–15 UNCX vesting-accounting incident drained roughly 1.1% of ZC (~11 million tokens) that was dumped on the open market; Zipcoin said it quietly bought tokens back to cover future commitments and disclosed that only in the shutdown note. Separately, the project said it was alerted on October 21 that its entire codebase — including secrets and private keys — had been compromised, leaving continued operations unsafe. The Crypto Times attributed that alert path to Railway; treat that as reported project/infra color, not a new confirmed multi-chain drain ledger. Desk rule: Vitalik Buterin’s novel Snowmoon inspired the brand only — he was not involved, and Zipcoin was not an Ethereum Foundation product.

UNCX Lockers publicly pointed to a voluntary ex-gratia recovery track for certain affected Ethereum projects (subject to verification). Do not invent payout timelines, holder distributions from Zipcoin’s planned treasury sale, or a confirmed attacker identity from the shutdown post alone. Keep separate from Swell hot-key rate inflation and Xaman phishing chapters already on the Oct 22 tape.

For security desks, the cut is cascading failure modes: a shared vesting venue hit, quiet remediation, then a claimed secrets compromise that ends the project — holders get an exit window, not a published recovery schedule.

What to watch on-chain next: Watch whether the planned ~2.2% project ZC sale actually clears and where proceeds land; whether UNCX’s voluntary recovery program posts dated eligibility results for ZC; and whether other UNCX-affected tokens announce their own wind-downs or remediations.

Bottom line: Zipcoin shut down October 22 after UNCX vesting losses (~1.1% of ZC) and a claimed codebase/key compromise — with a planned sale of remaining ~2.2% project holdings.
