Arkadiko Vault Drain Breaks USDA Peg After Stacks Governance Attack
By Crypto Wire

Arkadiko, the Stacks CDP protocol behind soft-pegged stablecoin USDA, said on October 22, 2026 (~20:29 UTC) that a malicious contract cleared its on-chain governance process and drained most collateral from its vaults — pushing USDA off its dollar peg, per the team’s disclosure and an Oct 23 wrap from The Crypto Times. Preliminary team figures put removed collateral near 2 million stSTX and 1.65 sBTC; no final USD loss total, attacker addresses, or tx list yet. DeFiLlama TVL fell from about $1.4 million pre-attack to roughly $141,600 on Oct 23 (~90%). This is a Stablecoin Settlement chapter: peg breaks when vault backing leaves — high-level only, not a governance exploit cookbook.
Response status from the same materials: Arkadiko disabled the malicious contract, paused governance, and halted vault redemptions and liquidations; stSTX/sBTC vault users cannot resize positions while that collateral is gone; the DEX and other STX vault paths remain up per the team. Exchange freeze requests and a police report are in flight. Desk rule: do not invent how the DIKO vote cleared the 0.25% proposal / 5% quorum / >50% thresholds — Arkadiko has not explained that yet — and do not treat the Security Module’s up-to-30% DIKO sale option as confirmed while governance stays paused.
Keep separate from Initia’s same-day L1 halt (11053) and from HSBC RedCoin rails (11030). USDA’s soft peg depends on over-collateralized vaults plus redemption into collateral value; once most stSTX/sBTC backing is gone, depeg for USDA holders and DEX LPs is the settlement cut, not a Stacks L1 outage.
For settlement desks, the cut is collateral truth: Arkadiko’s USDA peg broke after a governance-approved drain removed most vault backing — users wait on freezes, law enforcement, and any Security Module path once votes resume.
What changes for desks: Watch Arkadiko’s first postmortem with confirmed USD impact and how the vote cleared; USDA market price vs $1 on Stacks DEX venues; and whether exchanges actually freeze assets named in the police report.
Bottom line: Arkadiko lost most vault collateral after a governance-approved drain on Stacks — and USDA lost its dollar peg as TVL collapsed ~90%.
