BitGo Labs Launches With Live Gokubu AI Visa Spend Card

BitGo Holdings (NYSE: BTGO) launched BitGo Labs on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, a research and innovation unit charged with designing and proving consumer and protocol applications on top of BitGo’s custody, wallet, staking, trading, financing, stablecoin, and settlement stack. The company’s investor release and a same-day The Block exclusive put the early focus at the intersection of AI and crypto, with the first named live product Gokubu — an AI-powered spending card accepted wherever Visa is accepted. This is a Marketplace Watch product chapter: a custody giant shipping a consumer spend surface, not a new NFT royalty schedule.
BitGo frames Labs as the “apps” layer above what it calls the industry’s operating-system infrastructure, aiming to ship use cases “in months, not years” with AI assistance. The pitch for AI agents is micropayments, instant settlement, and securing large asset pools — rails traditional fintech allegedly cannot deliver at agent scale. Gokubu is already live for signup at gokubu.com, per the release: personalized AI financial assistant, automatic rewards optimization, and spend optimization claims. BitGo did not publish card fees, rewards APRs, geo eligibility, KYC tiers, or which stablecoins or fiat rails fund the card in today’s note — treat those as TBD until the product site or terms disclose them.
Labs also says it will publish research, prototype protocols and reference implementations, and partner across crypto and AI communities, scoring projects on whether they do something existing systems cannot. The Block notes CEO Mike Belshe told the outlet earlier this month that AI agents will “very likely” use stablecoins as a native currency while still interfacing with human-controlled systems — useful color for the settlement desk, not a claim Gokubu already runs agent-to-agent stablecoin rails. Forward-looking language in the BitGo release (volatility, key loss, regulatory scrutiny) remains standard issuer risk framing.
For NFT collectors, the useful cut is spend and settlement adjacency: if Gokubu becomes a real path from crypto balances to Visa merchants, it competes for the same retail attention OpenSea Mobile and other super-apps want — without changing floor tape or marketplace fees today. Do not conflate Labs’ research mandate with a claim that BitGo’s institutional custody book or federally chartered trust bank automatically underwrites every Gokubu transaction. Prior 8bitcrypto BitGo custody mentions (for example ETF custody amendments) stay separate product chapters; today’s beat is the Labs unit plus the live Gokubu card launch.
Company claims about “rates and returns no traditional system can touch” are marketing, not audited yield figures. Until BitGo or Gokubu posts a fee schedule, supported assets list, and consumer disclosures, desks should treat the launch as product availability plus a research umbrella — not a verified rewards meta.
Venue watch: Watch whether Gokubu publishes fee, geo, and funding-asset terms, whether Visa acceptance maps to any U.S. restrictions, and whether BitGo Labs’ next named prototype is a marketplace or wallet integration rather than another card — the desk cares about live rails and disclosed costs, not the Labs slogan.
Bottom line: BitGo Labs is live with an AI-and-crypto mandate and a Visa-accepted Gokubu spend card already open for signup — product surface first; fee and asset rails still need disclosure.
