DTCC Tokenization Service Goes Live With 20 Firms and About $30T Eligible

The Depository Trust Company (DTC), a subsidiary of DTCC, said Wednesday that the DTCC Tokenization Service (DTS) is live — a hard operational update after the desk’s October 24 targeting chapter. DTCC’s October 28 press release frames the launch as minting tokenized representations of DTC-custodied securities that convert between traditional and tokenized form and can land in users’ digital wallets of choice. Tokenized “digital twins,” DTCC says, keep the ownership rights, investor protections, and economic entitlements of the underlying securities. DTC custody sits above $114 trillion.
Twenty DTC Participants have signed access agreements so far, DTCC listed: Alpaca, Apex Clearing, Barclays, Bank of America, BNP Paribas, Brown Brothers Harriman, Citadel Securities, Citi, Clear Street, DriveWealth, Edward Jones, Fidelity Investments, Interchange Clearing, J.P. Morgan, Marex, Mirae Asset Securities (USA), Morgan Stanley, State Street, UBS, and Velocity Capital. Future users onboard on a rolling basis. CoinDesk’s same-day wrap, citing a DTCC spokesperson, put launch eligibility at 34 securities — select Russell 1000 names, index ETFs, and U.S. Treasury bills, notes, and bonds — representing about $30 trillion of market value.
Rails matter for collectors who already trade synthetic stock tokens on crypto venues. DTCC says DTS runs a multi-network model integrated with the Canton Network and DTCC’s private Besu network, with additional chains planned for 2027. CoinDesk separately reported roadmap talk of Stellar and Circle’s Arc next year, plus tools for digital-cash settlement and collateral use. Official ownership records stay with DTC even as tokens move between registered wallets — the contrast DTCC and CoinDesk both draw against price-tracking synthetics that do not convey underlying securities entitlements.
A DTC Important Notice dated October 28 (DAS-001) told Participants conversion orders between traditional and tokenized form may be submitted Monday through Friday from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET, while transfers of already-tokenized assets between allow-listed wallets on supported networks can run 24/7. CoinDesk said eligible firms can convert during business hours with DTCC targeting processing in 15 minutes or less. Attribute those operating windows to the Participant notice and CoinDesk’s DTCC-sourced timing, not to retail NFT mint clocks.
Regulatory scaffolding predates today’s live switch. DTCC’s release says DTC received a December 2025 SEC No-Action Letter authorizing tokenization of Russell 1000 constituents, major-index ETFs, and U.S. Treasuries, then completed initial limited-production trades with more than 30 firms about seven months later. The Industry Working Group that shaped DTS included more than 150 firms, per DTCC. Ecosystem partners named in the same release include BitGo, Blockdaemon, Broadridge, Fireblocks, HIFI, Ondo, Prometheum Capital, Tradeweb, and others — a pipeline list, not a claim that every partner is already clearing live retail NFT bids through DTS.
For NFT and crypto desks, the practical read is settlement infrastructure catching up to tokenized-equity experiments already running on chains collectors use. Robinhood Chain stock-token tapes and Hyperliquid EQX books remain separate venue products; Wednesday’s primary is DTC custody twins moving on Canton and private Besu under Participant agreements. Prefer DTCC’s dated press release and DAS-001 over headlines that invent retail mint access or blur DTCC twins with synthetic perps. Citi’s longer-range projection of a $5.5 trillion tokenized-securities market by 2030, cited in CoinDesk’s wrap, is analyst framing — not a DTCC AUM target for DTS today.
Settlement watch: Watch the next Participant onboarding print, the first dated conversion-volume disclosure after the October 28 live switch, and any 2027 network-add notice that names Stellar, Arc, or another chain joining Canton and private Besu — until those land, treat the twenty signed firms and 34-security / ~$30 trillion eligibility band as the live operating facts.
Bottom line: DTCC says the Tokenization Service is live with 20 signed Participants, Canton and private Besu rails, and about $30 trillion / 34 eligible securities — converting under weekday windows while token transfers can run 24/7.
