Ethereum Glamsterdam clears Nethermind rehearsal ahead of proposed Oct. 6 Sepolia

Dev Pulse is logging an Ethereum capacity rehearsal that NFT marketplaces and L2 mint desks should calendar now. CoinDesk reports that Glamsterdam kept confirming blocks under new block-building rules this week, clearing a key test before a proposed October 6 deployment on the Sepolia public test network. The upgrade path is the next major protocol step after today’s tokenization and agent-payments wires—more room per block for mints, bids, and marketplace settlement when mainnet eventually follows.

Nethermind followed on Wednesday with a performance run covering one of Glamsterdam’s biggest changes. Its execution client completed all 2,302 tests while processing 570.7 billion gas in three minutes and 15 seconds, averaging about 2.9 billion gas per second. CoinDesk stresses the benchmark measured Nethermind’s software, not full-network wall-clock speed. The suite exercised block-level access lists, which tell nodes which accounts and stored data a block will touch before processing starts—so clients can fetch data and check unrelated transactions in parallel instead of largely in sequence.

On the Glamsterdam testnet, the block gas limit jumped from 60 million to 200 million about an hour after going live. Gas is the compute budget per block; a higher ceiling creates room for more payments, swaps, and NFT activity before users start outbidding each other. CoinDesk notes a 200 million limit could soften fee spikes when a popular mint or token launch clogs the chain—but also that larger blocks are harder to verify and could squeeze smaller operators. The 200 million figure remains a test setting, not a mainnet commitment.

Glamsterdam also pushes enshrined proposer-builder separation-style plumbing: specialized builders package transactions while validators check blocks, with the handoff and payments moved inside Ethereum’s rules to cut dependence on outside relays. Propagation time for block data would stretch from about two seconds to roughly nine seconds, giving validators longer to receive and verify larger blocks. Devnet-11 was framed as a controlled rehearsal without deliberate attacks—so treat today’s green lights as staging progress, not mainnet go-live.

Why the NFT desk cares: OpenSea-class marketplaces, rarity oracles, and GameFi mints still pay Ethereum gas when they settle on L1 or when L2s post data. A protocol that can absorb more work per block before fee auctions spike is direct infrastructure for mint weekends and bid storms. Sepolia on October 6—still requiring formal confirmation per CoinDesk—is the next public checkpoint for application teams to break their contracts against Glamsterdam before mainnet users see it. Q4 2026 remains the roadmap window for mainnet; do not invent a mainnet date.

Practical checklist for marketplace and collection operators: calendar the proposed Sepolia date, watch whether client teams keep the October 6 target after more multi-client runs, assume 200 million gas is rehearsal-only until mainnet parameters are published, and test mint and bid flows against access-list assumptions once Sepolia forks. Until then, log Nethermind’s 2,302-test pass and the gas-limit rehearsal as verified staging milestones—not live fee relief on mainnet floors.

Dev Pulse will watch the formal Sepolia confirmation and whether Hoodi timing lands next. For collectors, the clean read today is capacity rehearsal cleared a key gate; NFT bid currency on Ethereum still waits on mainnet parameters that have not been locked.
