Solana Epoch 1064 Is Live as Alpenglow Awaits Slot 459,653,000

Solana mainnet entered epoch 1064 on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 — the Foundation’s Alpenglow activation epoch — while a live getAgGenesisCert call still returned null, meaning the cluster was still running TowerBFT inside the post-epoch handoff window. This updates the desk’s September 28 null-cert chapter and the Solana Alpenglow tracker. Anza had pinned the consensus switch to slot 459,653,000 after about 5,000 TowerBFT slots (~18 minutes) from epoch start; at this tick, epoch info showed absolute slot near 459,648,500 with slotIndex still under 600 — thousands of slots short of the cutover, not a finished flip.
Per the Solana Foundation Alpenglow upgrade page, Votor replaces TowerBFT voting so a block can finalize in one or two rounds, targeting roughly 150 milliseconds finality versus about 12.8 seconds today. Execution stays on the same SVM; wallets, programs, fees, and NFT mints do not require a token migration. Rotor (the later block-propagation layer) is not in this cut. Validator operators still need an Agave-family client at v4.3.2 (Agave, Jito-Solana, or Harmonic Salsa), with Firedancer/Frankendancer unsupported during the migration, plus at least 0.8 SOL above rent-exempt in the vote account for the Validator Admission Ticket. Feature gate language remains A1pengvuM6JEcyNuTnMqepBKhwHE3N6PmUrdATGawhJS.
Treat wall-clock estimates carefully. Foundation copy pegs epoch 1064 near 13:20 UTC; Anza’s Oct. 20 note projected the slot handoff around ~14:00 UTC. Those are projections that drift with slot timing — the RPC answer is authoritative: null means still TowerBFT; a certificate object means Alpenglow is live and its block.slot is the first Alpenglow block. A Method not found error only means the queried node is older than Agave 4.3, not that the network failed. This tick’s mainnet-beta RPC returned null with epoch 1064 already active — countdown, not confirmation.
For NFT and Phygital desks on Solana — Collector Crypt pack rails, Mudwater claims, marketplace fills — the useful cut is settlement latency and indexer readiness, not a new mint standard. Faster finality can tighten how wallets and venues count “done,” but it does not rewrite royalty rules or OpenSea fee schedules. Watch for failed RPC methods on old nodes, stalled confirmations during the 5,000-slot TowerBFT tail, and whether any major NFT indexer lags the first non-null genesis certificate.
Next protocol beat: Poll mainnet getAgGenesisCert until it returns a certificate whose block.slot matches (or sits at) 459,653,000; confirm no material outage in the first ~24 hours after the flip; then retire the activation chase per the Alpenglow tracker stop rule.
Bottom line: Epoch 1064 is live and Alpenglow’s slot gate is 459,653,000, but mainnet getAgGenesisCert was still null at this tick — TowerBFT has not retired yet.
